NHMFC Offers Moratorium for Super Typhoon Nina’s Victims As part of government’s efforts to help victims recover from the aftermath of super typhoon Nina, borrowers of the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC) who were affected can avail of the 6-month moratorium on their housing loans. All NHMFC borrowers/buyers whose accounts are updated or in current status as of 24 December 2016 are qualified and may apply not later than 31 January 2016. The moratorium will be implemented for a period of six months effective on the first due date after January 2017. In the event of payment by the claimant during the six-month period, such will be posted after the moratorium. The application should be supported by a certification from the barangay chairman to attest that the borrower’s/buyer’s property was damaged by typhoon Nina. The borrower’s loan term shall be automatically extended equivalent to the same number of months that the account is under moratorium. According to reports from the NHMFC’s satellite office, roughly 1,050 accounts were severely affected by typhoon Nina: Bicol (800); Quezon (50); and MIMAROPA (200).
